I copy and paste comments from readers at popular Facebook groups. I like this one from Elizabeth Carter Burdick at "You Know you from Troy, Ala" ....

Elizabeth Carter Burdick: "I spent almost every single day of summer in this pool. We lived on campus my entire childhood. Kenneth and I walked over to the pool and stayed all day."

Does anyone know the last year this pool was used or open?

I also appreciate anyone who has used the "Share" button in these Substack dispatches to increase the number of people who know about the existence of "Alabama's first Substack newspaper." For now, my only "marketing plan" is this share button. It's free marketing ... and people need to know they can subscribe to The Troy Citizen for free.

UPDATE: Those interested in my story on famous acts that performed at Troy State's Sartain Hall might want to re-visit that story as I have since added at least 40 other acts who performed in Troy. Most were musical acts, but there were several well-known comedians who did their stand-up acts in Sartain. I also didn't know that one of my favorite columnists, Lewis Grizzard, did a humor routine at Sartain in 1986. Thanks to reader Richard Parsons, I've now added a photo of Grizzard at his Sartain gig.

I remember Lewis (I think) once wrote a column, mentioning how much he loved Wilson's Barbecue (a Troy landmark for many years).

When I was editor of The Montgomery Independent, I interviewed Grizzard's widow, who attended college at Auburn. She was a very nice lady.

Here's the updated "Sartain Hall" story:

The list of famous acts who performed at Sartain and/or in Troy has grown to more than 90. These acts spanned the time frame from the early 1960s to the early 2000's. Thanks to readers for giving me more names. I'm sure we still haven't listed every famous act so the list will probably grow to 100. As Wally Lowery reminded me, Ron Pierce booked many of these acts when he was director of the Adam Center.
