I think I would have gotten a few sympathy tips from customers - Enough to buy a Momma's Love combo meal with a sweet tea and their great crushed ice.

Barbara Tatom tells me the Big Box store where KaKa bought me the Billy Joel "Stranger" album was Big K. Whatever happened to Big K? ... it was "big" at one time. I guess Wal-Mart got bigger.

Also, have you ever noticed some people are only known by their LAST name? For example, nobody called Gary Rumph "Gary." He was always just "Rumph."

This is apropos of ... something, but I'm not sure what.

If he was Australian he would be called Rumpy or Rumpo.

Speaking of three digit phone numbers: I took a job in a small rural town, years ago. The day after I took the job, I was in the paint store to get stuff for the apartment. The phone rang and the clerk excused herself. She answered the phone and then turned to me, "It's for you." True story.

I thought this was fun! Like all your Troy pieces - but they'd be really great for someone who lives there.

(I'm still waiting for the side by side photos of your local citizens that look like famous people, so I can weigh in.... I know, I know, you couldn't do that, it'd be a severe invasion of privacy.)

I wish that the California town I grew up in, and where I was 4th generation, hadn't exploded into a nightmare of freeways and development beyond all recognition.

It's a wonderful thing to raise your children where their grandparents lived, and play on the same statue you did!

I wonder if Big K was the same as Kmart on the West Coast..... also long gone with the advent of Walmart.

I wish I could find photos of all my famous look-alikes, but it would be a lot more work. Of course, most people in Troy remember what these local residents looked like at one time ... but my readers from "off" don't. If I get some photos in the future, I'll add side-by-side shots.
