Dr. Wayne Curtis is one of the finest southern gentlemen I know! I am honored to call him my friend. Not only is he brilliant but he is so caring, down to earth, and kind.
Dr. Curtis was a classmate of both my late parents (Troy High Class of 1958). Mom and Dad always told me he was the "smartest person" in their graduating class. And that's saying something because there were some brilliant people in that class.
Class members included Tom Murphree, who built bridges and flew airplanes, Dr. Buddy Brantley, an excellent family physician, Dr. Hollis (an eye doctor) and my Dad and Mom. (Mom read about five books a week and could finish the NY Times Sunday crossword in ink pen in about 30 minutes!)
My high school principal, Herman Gunter, was also in that class among many other people long-time Trojans would consider very smart.
Dr. Curtis is a true southern Gentleman. We all need to pray for him as he's battling a tough case of prostate cancer right now.
