I started thinking about great Troy players who’ve already transferred to other schools and then started thinking about great kick returners who’ve played for Troy
I found a site that lists stats for all Troy athletes pre 2010 - or from about 1971 to 2010. Griggs' kick return stats are amazing. I'll publish them in a story later today.
It took 50+ years for the top level of college football to organize and agree on a playoff system. Paying players was only kicked around for 20 or so years before the courts made that a reality. I think it will take another 3-5 years before the Wild West nature of college football is brought to heel and clear divisions will emerge.
Think you are spot on Bill. Did you see view the link I sent along? Oregon has almost $1 Billion in NIL money??? That’s ridiculous. There is going to have to be a “salary cap” or the entire landscape of college football will be changed forever. That is exactly why the NCAA imposed scholarship limits. Of course, you know all this so I’m like a kid shouting yesterday’s news…
Correction: In his rookie year with the New England Patriots, Marcus Jones scored a TD on a kick return, punt return and as a RECEIVER (the pass was thrown by former Alabama QB Mac Jones). Jones has also scored a TD on an interception return. He made All-Pro as a rookie after being first-team All-American his senior year at Houston. He was also the Sunbelt Conference's Freshman of the Year at Troy in 2017.
Griggs was exceptional.

I think we're headed to a D-I "Big Boy" League of about 72 teams and then a AAA level, which would include Troy.
