Every day, on my way home from work, I pass a small farm that is on one corner of a four way stop. Fair amount of traffic, but never really busy.
They have a flock of chickens that roam free. These chickens do, in fact, cross the road. I’ve driven through and seen them scattered on all four sides of the intersection.
If I have a chance I will try to get a photo/video next time I see them crossing.
Thanks, Carrie. I'll give the history of the event in my upcoming feature story .... Also, here's hoping more local residents use Substack's outstanding "Reader Comments" section to opine on any topic. Readers can pass along story ideas and also include links to other stories that might be of interest to readers.
I just saw this link of a squirrel who ran for a touchdown in the Ole Miss-Oklahoma game. That squirrel must have crossed the road to get into the stadium!
Readers and friends keep passing along great story ideas. I'm saving all of them and will hopefully write stories about most of these as fast as I can peck. Thanks for these suggestions. Also, I'd love to run guest articles or op-ed pieces ... and - if I can't attend an event - I can easily publish good photos that people email me.
Another excellent feature of Substack newsletters is that all previous stories are archived and easily accessible. This means if someone subscribes, say, four months from now, she can go back and read any of the previous articles.
I also like the edit function which means if I get a name in a caption wrong - or any fact - I can instantly correct it. Readers can tell me of these errors in the Reader Comments section or by shooting me an email.
UPDATE: My daughter Maggie read this and informs me her brother Jack is 8 not 9. Oops! Now fixed.
It's possible some Troy Citizen subscriber MIGHT have photographic evidence that a chicken has crossed the road. If so, please email to me and I'll publish this evidence in a future dispatch.
Also, I hope readers email me cute photos from any local event as well as story ideas. Please include names and caption info in your email. My email is:

The "proof" we've been looking for! Thanks!
Squirrels are smarter I’ve seen them use the cable or some types of wires to get across the road lol.
Lots of people (me included) LOVE this event and look forward to it every year!!

I probably will right a story on all the deer that are roaming through local neighborhoods, so feel free to email any good deer photos as well.
I hope everyone's teams win today!
I’m enjoying your new Stack with its hometown/family-dinner-table-conversation flavor. It’s refreshing.
